With the end of World War 2, SJSC wrestling rebounded with new hope and a new coach, Ted Mumby. Mumby had a varied
background. He graduated from Indiana and then went to the Christian College of Lucknow, India. He became the athletic
director at Lucknow and stayed there for twenty years. In 1932, Mumby was the Olympic Wrestling Coach for India.
After his experiences in that country, Mumby went to Stanford for four years. The in 1946, he took over the SJSC
wrestling program and produced some great Spartan teams. In 1952, suffering from a reinjured tennis elbow, he passed
on the program to his son, Hugh. Ted Mumby coached from 1946 through 1952. |
