| (From 1979-80 Season...) |
| Perhaps one of the most gifted incoming freshmen ever to attend SJSU. Jerry is an 18-year-old frosh from Leland
High School in San Jose. At LHS he was coached by Mike Cancilla. In 1977 as a JV wrestler at Leland he went undefeated.
In 1978 he placed 3rd in the CCS. Last year was his crowning glory as he went undefeated again and only gave up
11 points all year in capturing the California State championship. As a 191-pounder on varsity at Leland, Jerry's
two year record was 83-4. He also played baseball and foot ball at LHS, lettering in both as well as in wrestling.
He was the recipient of the Gordon Leland Award his senior season, given to the best All-Around Athlete. In baseball
he was a two-time all-league selection. Last year he was an honorable mention All-America pick by Scholastic Wrestling
News and a 2nd-team All-America choice of Young Wrestler magazine. Jerry is a business major with the hopes of
someday being rich. He will wrestle at 190-pounds for SJSU. Born 12-25-60 in Lynwood, Ca. |

| (From 1980-81 Season...) |
| Returning from the 1980 Spartan Squad, Jerry saw plenty of action and met with success in his first year at SJSU.
A wrestler with great national-level potential, according to Coach Kerr, "Mercury" Morrison is the defending
PCAA at 190-pounds and barely missed placing at the NCAA. He was named runner-up on the All-Star Freshman Team
bu Amateur Wrestling News. In his first year as a Spartan, "Merc" compiled a 22-16-1 record with four
falls. He was 14-7-1 in dual meets, with three of those wins at Hwt, and 8-9 in tourney competition. |
| |
| (From 1981-82 Season...) |
| Returning for his third year as a Spartan wrestler, "Mercury" Morrison will be shooting for his third
PCAA title in the 1981-82 season. This two-year letter winner enjoyed his most successful season yet with a 30-8
mark in the 1980-81 campaign. Competing at heavyweight the first part of the season, "Merc" compiled
a 12-2 mark with half his victories coming by fall. At 190-pounds, his 1981 slate read 18-6. In dual meets he was
14-4 while wrestling to a 16-4 tourney record. He has been to the NCAA twice, compiling a 1-3 mark. He will be
hoping to make it a third time with a more successful outcome at the national tourney. |

| (From 1982-83 Season...) |
| Coming off a redshirt year that was devoted to growth, Jerry "Mercury" Morrison is now anxiously awaiting
to better his 1980-81 season. That year saw such accomplishments as a first in the Mumby Invitational, a third
in the Beehive, a third in the Portland State Invitational, and the PCAA title at 190 pounds. It was his second
PCAA crown. While wrestling under coach Mike Cancilla at Leland High, his senior year saw "Merc" go undefeated
all the way through the California State Meet to capture the title at 190's. For his accomplishments, he was placed
on the Honorable Mention All-American list by Scholastic Wrestling News. Lately, "Merc" has been concentrating
on 'getting big'. He plans to use his new size, along with his natural ability to improve his career record of
52-24-1. |
