| The Team's number one hope for an NCAA tile in 1979, Robert Richard (Bobby) McDowell is nicknamed "Leggs"
by his team mates. He will wrestle at 142 and 150-pounds this season. He owns a 40-3 career mark at SJSU including
a 22-1 record at 150-pounds and an 18-2 mark at 142-pounds. The senior came to SJSU from Wilcox High in Santa Clara
by way of Graceland College in Iowa where he was 37-0 and NAIA National Champion. At Wilcox, he ws an all-league
gridder and four-year competitor in wrestling with a career record of 122-15 and was 4th in the California State
Meet under Coach Paul Hatling. While red-shirting at SJSU in 1977, he was 5th in USWF Freestyle Meet at 163-pounds.
Robert was ranked 2nd in the nation in 1978 at 142-pounds and won both the PCAA and NCAA Western Regional Championships.
The Bay Area Collegiate Wrestling Officials Association voted him winner of the 1978 Martin Olivarri Memorial Award
as the Outstanding University Division Wrestler. His other 1978 achievements were: 3rd at the Midlands, 1stin the
California North-South All-Star Meet, 1st in the Chico Invitational, 1st in the Portland State Invitational, and
named Outstanding Wrestler in the latter two meets. An HP & RE major with a fire science minor. Born 4-5-56
