SJSU Wrestling Archives Coach Gene Grattan                           Gene Grattan gained his own wrestling experience at the University of Iowa. He was a San Jose attorney, a very dedicated man, who came to SJSC and worked the team at no renumeration beyond the satisfaction that he gained by piloting the local youths to successful seasons. In his era, the Spartans wrestled many clubs besides collegiate teams. At the height of his program building, however, Grattan was fatally involved in an auto accident in 1940...a tragic loss to the young SJSC program. Grattan coached from 1936 to 1940.               Coach Grattan's grave is located at Oak Hill Cemetery, off of Curtner Avenue, San Jose.
