Spartan Wrestlers Participate In PCI This Weekend

With an excellent chance of winning the crown, coach Sam Della Maggiore's Spartan wrestlers participate in the annual PCI tournament on the UCLA campus tonight and tomorrow night.

Although the San Jose State College team is slightly favored, the Spartans will have stiff competition from at least three other evenly matched teams--UCLA, California, and California Aggies.

San Jose has an undefeated dual meet record, although the team won four and lost four bouts in each of its meets. Della Maggiore's men won by a two-point margin in each case, scoring the most falls.

Hopes for victories by Davey Hines, Far Western 165-pound champ; Ivan Olsen, 136-pound Far Western king; and Vic Gorin, 155-pound Spartan grappler, appear bright. Hines hopes to get revenge for his only defeat of the year from the Bruin's 165-pound wrestler.

Team captain Bob Riddle, undefeated in dual meet competition, hopes to add points to the Spartans' total in the 175-pound class, and Charley Smith, second-place winner in the 175-pound division last year, will enter the heavyweight class.

Con Lacy is expected to provide trouble for his 121-pound opponents. Competing in the 128-pound classes respectively, Yosh Uchida and Dave Kawamoto will try a little judo.
