A determined band of Spartan wrestlers will make their first big time start at Berkeley tonight.
Entering a full team of eight men, San Jose will be opposing squads form California, Stanford, California Aggies,
and San Francisco University. This will be the first time that the Spartans have been called upon to meet the varsity
teams from these schools.
Yesterday's workout, which took place at Palo Alto, the lair of the Stanford Indians, coach Grattan's men showed
that they will be in the midst of the battle for top honors. Holding the powerful Redskins to an event count in
a series of informal bouts, the SJS men gave an indication of what the larger and more famous institutions will
be up against tonight.
California will be top heavy favorite to win by the final score, but it is doubtful if the Bear matmen will get
through the evening unscathed by the new-found power of the San Jose Spartans.
Grattan, pleased over yesterday's showing, has indicated that he will leave the lineup practically intact. This
means that Salameda, Haeberle, Roumasset, Lucky, Enos or Glover, Philpott and Maynard will probably crawl through
the ropes against the mixture of Dons, Mustangs, Bears, and Indians.
The bouts have attracted quite a bit of interest at the Berkeley school and a full house is expected to witness
the contests. |
