The Spartan wrestlers face only one foe this week.
The Olympic Club of San Francisco and Los Angeles Junior College were to meet coach Grattan's troupe in a double
bill Friday and Saturday evenings. However, the Olympic Club squad announced yesterday afternoon that it would
be unable to fulfill its engagement.
LAJC will fill the vacancy by exchanging grips with the local matmen tomorrow night in Spartan Pavilion. Originally,
the Los Angeles match was set for Saturday.
The match tomorrow against the junior collegians is the last scheduled meet for the Spartans. Only the PAA meet
to be on April 23rd remains after this week. Coach Grattan will send all his regulars for the L.A. bouts and as
an added attraction will pit Mel Bruno against Jack Smith in an exhibition bout.
Besides the Smith-Bruno exhibition Willard LeCroy, wrestling manager, promises to have a real German band on deck
to entertain the patrons between matches. LeCroy attempted to organize such a band for the California meet two
months ago, but his plans failed to materialize. The wrestling manager thinks he will have success Friday evening.
Against LAJC coach Grattan will use his two aces, Jack Fiebig and Jack Smith. This duo was out of action last week
because of make-up grades. However, they are ready to fire away against the southerners. Fiebig seeks revenge against
Louis Largely, LAJC matman who defeated him earlier in the season. It was Fiebig's first college setback and Jack
is determined to erase the upset. |
