Ten Spartan Wrestlers In PAAU Tournament

Ten Spartan freshman and varsity wrestlers will compete in the PAAU tournament tonight and tomorrow night at the San Francisco YMCA for the championship of Northern California and Nevada.

Coach Eugene Grattan's freshman squad are the defending champions having nosed out the varsity 23-21 in 1938. Varsity captain Fortune Masdeo will be the only Spartan defending title-holder returning. Mel Bruno and Con Lacy, 1928 winners, are both out for the season with injuries.

The strong San Francisco Olympic Club, which recently won the Far Western title, will be favored for the championship.

Varsity entrants are Vic Christiansen (112), Bob Norona (135), Fortune Masdeo (145), Bob Riddle (174), Charlie Smith (191), and Bob Bronzan (hwt).

The freshman team will be made up of George Yoshisato (118), Alvin Duty (123), Mike Bertolia (145), and team captain Davey Hines (155).
