While other San Jose College athletic teams are seeing action in far-flung sections of the nation, the Spartan
wrestling team will make a strong claim for fame in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate championships at Pullman,
Washington, this weekend.
Led by co-captains Frank Waxham and Lee Jordan, the local grapplers will attempt to dethrone Oregon State, the
defending PCI champ.
Waxham, Far Western AAU 157-lb champion, is a luke-warm favorite to win individual honors in his division.
Jordan will see action in the 167-lb division.
Going into the meet with the best record is 177-lb Lou Menghini. He has won his last 16 matches.
In the 123-lb division, Ben Ichikawa will represent SJS. Johnny Jackson will compete in the 137-lb division. Al
Cadena is scheduled to battle for the 191-lb title and Jean Snyder is entered in the heavyweight class. |
