 Wrestlers To Appear In Championships

Embarking for Los Angeles Thursday morning will be coach Gene Grattan and a small contingent representing the Far Western Team champions from San Jose State College who will send a squad of five men to the California State Intercollegiate Tournament.

Fresh from their decisive victory at Berkeley last Saturday, the Spartans will be trying only for individual honors in the state tournament at UCLA.

The Staters will be handicapped by the loss of their two lightweights, Puckett and Fiebig, 175-pound Frank McGuire, and John Jones (hwt) who all are freshmen and ineligible for the competition in this intercollegiate meet. However, Martin Olavarri at 135 pounds will make a strong bid for the individual title and will be out to avenge for his only defeat this season and that at the hands of Milton Dalo, winner in the team championships.

Carlton Lindgren, George Wenglein, Melvin Rush, and the winner of the match between Ivan Nelson and "Voice" Kelly will make up the remainder of the varsity squad to make the southern trip.

UCLA will be the top favorite to keep the trophy at home, but will be challenged by its big brother, the California Bear, who will rest in the darkened spot next to the favorite. Other competitors will be furnished by Stanford, San Diego State, Los Angeles Junior College, and California Aggies.
