Wrestlers travel To Oakland To Enter Far Western |
||
| More than 25 college and AAU wrestling teams from four western states will gather at the Oakland YMCA tonight and
tomorrow to compete in the annual Far Western Wrestling Tournament, according to San Jose mentor Hugh Mumby. The tourney, to be judged under Olympic rules, will be the last performance for the Spartans before entering the PCI tourney next weekend in San Luis Obispo. Six, or possibly seven wrestlers have been named by Mumby as entrants from SJS who will appear on the mats with contestants throughout this state, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada. Kay Toyota, Gary Goss, Pete Herder, Lynn Brooks, Gus Talbot, Dick Francis, and possibly Lee Baxter will attempt to dethrone the San Diego Naval Training Center as tourney title holders. |
