Olavarri Out Of Wrestling Meet

San Jose State's hope of repeating last year's victory in the Far Western AAU wrestling meet were dealt a severe blow when Captain Martin Olavarri suffered an arm injury Tuesday night which will in all probability keep him out of the championship affair.

Coach Grattan will sorely miss Olavarri, who captured second in the last Far Western meet. However, Carleton Lindgren, wrestling in the same class as the Spartan captain, is scheduled to fill in the breach. Lindy is at his best when the competition is tough, so his big chance comes Saturday. He was already entered along with Olavarri, but the latter's injury leaves only himself as a varsity entry in that division.

All of Grattan troupe is in fine physical shape for the bouts. Chic Tonouye had a sore dear during the week of the California meet, but he is now feeling as chipper as ever. The rest of the varsity and frosh performers can hardly wait until the meet comes off.

A squad of 24 has been tentatively selected by mentor Grattan for Saturday's fray. The freshman will be represented in all classes except the 126-pound division, there being no one to wrestle in that weight. Conrad Lacy bolsters the 118-pound class and along with Freddie Albright should make a good showing. Lacy is a strong wrestler despite his slight weight and many believe he will win a first or second. Mel Bruno, of course, will be poison ivy for all 155-pound contenders.

Coach Grattan will enter three men in the varsity 155 and 165-pound classes. The three R's, Reginato, Riddle, and Rush compete in the latter class with Wenglein, Hosa, and Pink scheduled to uphold State colors in the 155-pound division.

Johnny Jones is the lone varsity entry for State in the heavyweight division. His mate, Sam della Maggiore, injured himself two weeks ago and has been on the shelf since. It seems that Sammy was performing a few Tarzan feats during a police agility training class and during the act missed his destination, making a tow-point landing which severely injured him. Della Maggiore promised to return soon and then Grattan will once more have two heavies to score points for the Spartans.
