Approximately 25 men have rallied around in answer to the call of coach Gene Grattan for wrestlers to enter in
the annual Far West Tournament to be held in Berkeley on this coming Saturday, March 7.
The heavyweight division, usually a coach's despair when it comes in obtaining material, will offer a strong list
of contenders for tourney honors. The big boys will include Glenn DuBose, John Dimello, Wendall Hanson, Jess Wilson,
and Mitchell Ukovich.
Dimello will be the only man with extensive experience, but DuBose is given a very good chance to carry off the
honors due to his first class showing in recent meet.
Hanson, Wilson, and Ukovich should also gather points for the home team in this division.
The remaining wights will be taken care of by a well-balanced aggregation, among whom Jack Fiebig, at 125, and
Art Philpott, at 165, will be favored to account for first places. The other boys, especially Roumasset, Lear,
and Allen have more than a possibility of placing high in their divisions.
Others who have been chosen to make the trip are Numerino Davin, Martin Olivarri, George Wenglein, Melvin Rush,
Eldon Fisher, Harold Wise, Dwight Hubbard, George Nelson, Peter Enos, Earl Glover, Gene Hill, Kelly Hosa, Joe Salameda,
and Byron Lanphear. |
