 Starling To Wrestle In NCAA

L.Q. Starling will be the Spartan wrestlers' lone hope when he trys for the NCAA championship tomorrow at University of Pennsylvania.

The Spartans lost a good chance of coming away with another title as defending champion Loren Miller (152) dislocated his elbow earlier in the year.

Miller represented SJS last year in the 152-pound division and won the NCAA championship.

Starling, a junior from Watsonville, had the best dual meet record of any Spartan this year...9-0-1.

Spartan coach Hugh Mumby expects Starling's toughest competition to come from defending champion Rick Sanders of Portland University.

"He's a first class wrestler," said Mumby about Sanders. "L.Q. has improved considerably. He should give a good accounting of himself in national competition. He has lots of physical ability and needs high-caliber competition to improve his confidence."

Starling, a business and industrial management major, went to Watsonville High where he was a three-letter man, earning letters in cross country and track in addition to wrestling.
