Matmen Defeat Broncos To End Season |

| SJS wrestlers pinned down another successful dual meet season Monday night by trouncing Santa Clara 34-0. The win hiked the SJS grapplers' final record to 9-5-1. Pins by Dave Austin (130), Ron Matheson (137), Dan Swenson (145), and Mike Herschfelt highlighted the victory. Joe Silva (152), Jim Thomas (160), and Paul Hatling (177) added decisions, while Dennis Runyon (123) earned a forfeit victory. Sanctioned NCAA tourneys are also over except for the NCAA championships slated for March 24-26 in Ames, Iowa. Coach Hugh Mumby hopes to send three Spartans, Loren Miller (145), Matheson (137), and Cy Lucas (160) back for the tournament. The trio led SJS winners this year and Mumby feels all could show well against the nation's top wrestlers. Miller grappled at 160 most of the year, 15 pounds above his weight, but was still undefeated. |
