"An exam-decimated Spartan wrestling team finished in fifth place in the Far Western AAU championships in
Oakland Saturday. Team captain Freddie Albright, 1942 champ at 136 pounds, had his second title within his grasp,"
declared coach Mumby. Fred won his first two matches on falls when a neck injury forced him out of competition.
Freddie will miss the Pacific Coast AAU championships being held here this weekend, but will probably be ready
for the Olympic Games trials also being held here on the 24-26th of this month.
A surprising feature of the Far Western was Camp Pendleton's strong third place finish. Coached by Jack Smith,
a former Spartan, the Marines took two individual titles. Smith himself took the heavyweight championship. |
