| Inspired SJS wrestlers took down UCLA 22-9 Saturday night in Los Angeles to avenge the Bruins for an early season
defeat. Santa Clara provided the opposition last night, but Spartan mentor Hugh Mumby expected little threat from the weak Broncos. Mumby gave Loren Miller and Cy Lucas the evening off and tested little-used grapplers. San Jose stood 8-5-1 going into the encounter. Six quick wins against UCLA put the Spartans ahead to stay. Dennis Runyon gained a forfeit in the 123-pound division, and Dave Austin took a fall over his 130-pound foe and four grapplers followed with decisions. Victories went to Ron Matheson (137), Dan Swenson (145), Miller (152), and Lucas (160). Miller's win gives the rugged grappler an undefeated dual match record. |
