| Now you see them, now you don't. That will be the case of the SJS wrestling team as they face top rival Fresno
State Friday night at 7:30 in Spartan Gym in one of their rare home appearances. |
| |
| "This could be the deciding match as to who will be the PCAA champion, and this match will determine who will
be seeded first in the brackets in the PCAA tournaments late in February," said wrestling coach Terry Kerr. |
| |
| "If we win here, we will definitely have the psychological advantage in the PCAA finals," Kerr added. |
| |
| Kerr, a graduate student at SJS, believes on the basis of their schedule that Fresno State is the toughest team
in the conference. |
| |
| "Dual meet records really don't mean that much, we try to stress individual progress over records and our
goal is to push three or four of our grapplers for firsts in the PCAA finals," Kerr said of the Spartans,
now 1-5-1. |
| |
| Three of these first place hopefuls will appear in what Kerr feels will be the featured lineups in the Fresno State
match are Steve Baca (126), Tim Kerr (158), and heavyweight Don Jackson. Baca and Kerr are juniors and Jackson
is a sophomore. |
| |
| The Spartan trio will face Vic Gonzalez (126) who is termed by Bulldog coach Dick Francis as "the best wrestler
on this year's squad," Corky Napier (158) who is the PCAA's defending champion, and Bud Raschhuapt (hwt). |
| |
| Fresno State's appearance on the Spartan mats will mark only the third time an opponent has traveled to SJS this
season. |
