Matsters Ready To Meet Indians

It's pretty definite that Gene Grattan's men of the mat are going on a scalping party Friday night. Stanford's
Indians come to Spartan pavilion for a wrestling fiesta and plenty of tomahawks are scheduled to be thrown, not
to mention several unfortunate grapplers.
Clayton Frye is the man behind Stanford wrestling activities and his turnout this season has been encouraging.
Frye, who also handles boxers down on the Farm, will bring to San Jose an experienced group of matmen. The college
tournament held January 20 brought to the fore outstanding grapplers and for the first time in many years, the
Stanfordites believe they will have a worthy squad.
Outstanding candidates on the Stanford team include Steve Kenseff and Jim Dignan, heavyweights; Jack Lyons in the
119-pound division; Jimmy Yater, a clever 155-pounder; and Buddy Iwata, participating in the 126-pound class.
Coach Grattan of the Spartan forces is confident his matsters can hurdle the latest threat. All the locals are
in fair shape. They showed a tendency to tire easily in their bouts with the Olympic Club, but more roadwork will
eliminate this fault. |
