Spartan Wrestlers Back On The Road

Coming off a two-day road trip, including a tough 21-18 loss at UCLA, the Spartan wrestling team is back on the road tomorrow.

"We didn't wrestle well at UCLA," coach T.J. Kerr said. "Man for man, we may not be as good as them but i thought we could beat them as a team."

The next day, SJSU defeated Nevada-Las Vegas 28-17 in Las Vegas. SJSU's Robert McDowell, rated second in the nation at 150 pounds, pinned his man in both matches, running his season record to 32-1, including 15 falls.

The only other double winner for the Spartans was 190 pounder Duane Harris.

"On our team we have some guys who are really close in some weights classes," Kerr said. "I've been juggling people at certain weights to try to find the best combination."

The Spartans meet Call Poly-San Luis Obispo Thursday. Ranked eighth in the nation, Cal Poly is considered to have the best wrestling program in California Kerr said. SJSU faces another big challenge Friday against Long Beach State.

"We figured Utah State to be our main competition in the PCAA,' Kerr said. "But Long Beach beat them in a dual meet so of course, this match is important."

Rounding out a three-day trip will be a tournament at Biola State. Along with UCLA, Louisiana State, ranked 13th in the nation, will be competing.
