SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 2-6-50                   Grapplers Grab Win, Tie Over Weekend             by Sam Goldman           Coach Ted Mumby's varsity wrestlers had to console themselves with a 17-13 victory over the Stanford Indians on Friday evening at the Encima Gym and grind out a 14-14 tie from the strong Cal Poly wrestlers on Saturday in the Spartan Gym. The Gold and Green Mustangs started off their evening with the victory cry as their 121-pound and 128-pound prides Ronnie O'Mera and Jess Martinez banged San Jose lighties Joe Killeen and Ben Ichikawa into defeat. However, Spartan dependables 136-pound Bill Wardrup, 155-pound Frank Waxham, and 165 pound Dick Campbell came through with decision victories over Polyites LeRoy Guidotti, Jim Dowe, and Herman Beljan, respectively. Southerner Howard Tillotsen pressured San Jose Ralph Payne (145) into submission. In the 175-pound class, Lee Jordan overturned Cal Poly's co-captain Fred Adams for a fall to put San Jose into the lead.
