The SJSU wrestling team is on the right track.
After successfully beating Humboldt State 23-17 last Friday night, the trend continued Saturday at the California
Collegiate Championships. In that meet, SJSU finished fifth overall in a field of 12 and brought home two first-place
awards.
SJSU's top wrestler, Arnold Khanbabian (19-0-1), along with Dave Love, captured the awards for SJSU in the 118
and 134 weight classes, respectively.
"So far, i'm really happy with the team's performance," assistant coach Andy Tsarnas said. "We are
current 5-7 and have lost to three teams by only a point. With a little luck we could be right where we want to
be."
Tsarnas said he feels the key to the team's recent success has been experience.
"This year our guys are older and more experienced," Tsarnas said.
With only three matches remaining in the season, the team would like nothing better than to stay on the winning
track.
The remaining matches are against Fullerton State, Fresno State, and Stanford.
"We have already played Stanford once and beat them," Tsarnas said. "The key match is with Fresno."
"Fresno is really tough, one of the best on the West Coast," Tsarnas said. "We know that Fresno
is a better all around team." |
