Grapplers Seek Far West Title |
||
| With a championship at stake, Coach Ted Mumby's Spartan varsity wrestling squad will present a strong challenge
to cop the Far Western championships, which take place this weekend at Oakland. The Spartans stand an excellent chance of grabbing the tourney as they have four former Far Western title holders and also four men who won championships at the recently held Northern California Junior Wrestling tourney. They are team co-captain Hans Weidenhofer, Jim Shouse, Fred Albright, and Paul Borg. The NCJW winners co-captain Ray Miser, Pat Felice, Stan SMith, and Carl Holmberg. San Diego State has entered the Far Western meet as well as a Navy team. Coach Mumby is seeking a match to be held here with San Diego State which will also defeated the UCLA Bruin matmen. Plans are underway for the Spartan matmen to meet either a Big Six or a Big Nine wrestling squad next season. |
