Spartan wrestling power wavered during an Oregon road trip last weekend. The grapplers were clearly in control
at Southern Oregon, and handed the Ashland team a 20-6 defeat.
The victory chant was short lived however as the squad was dumped 32-0 by Oregon State University, and again by
the University of Oregon 21-6.
At Ashland, Mike Stone (123) picked up a 14-1 decision. John Lim followed up with a pin in the 130 division. Art
Beatty (137) earned a 4-2 decision. Carl Dommeyer (147) was decisioned 9-2. Cliff Olsen grabbed his first of two
wins of the tour by a 4-1 decision in the 157-pound class.
Gary Scardina (167) dropped a close 6-3 decision, but Bill Harm (177) made up for it by a 10-7 win. Heavyweight
Don Anderson added to his win string by a 4-0 shutout.
The trail got bumpy from there on out however when the Spartans took on the Beavers and the Ducks. At Corvallis,
OSU throttled the visitors, picking up four pins and four decisions.
The SJS matmen fared little better in their last stand at Eugene against the Oregon Ducks. Stone lost by a pin
Lim dropped a 6-2 decision, and Beatty was shut out 8-0. Dommeyer was 9-3 in the 147-pound class.
Olsen (157) helped save the Spartans from another rout by picking up a 3-0 decision. |
