Wrestlers Meet Fresno Tonight
|
| |
| The SJSU wrestling team finishes its winningest season in history at Spartan Gym tonight when they host Fresno
State in a 7:30 dual meet. |
| |
| The Spartans, currently 18-4, are looking for a win tonight to gather momentum for the PCAA championships on Feb.29
at Utah State. |
| |
| Fresno State comes to San Jose with a 5-11 dual meet mark. The Bulldogs have fallen behind in the lighter weights
in most dual meets, but have had consistent performances in the heavier weights. |
| |
| "If we wrestle well against Fresno State, it could be lopsided," Spartan coach T.J. Kerr said. |
| |
| Kerr wanted to guard against over-confidence, mentioning the Bulldogs always seem tough in the dual meets. |
| |
| One of tonight's featured matches will send defending 158-pound PCAA champion Warren Flynn, 10-6, of Fresno State
against Reggie Thompson, 25-12. |
| |
| "Reggie's been fired up all week," Kerr said. "He needs a win for a high seeding at the PCAA tournament." |
| |
| The Bulldogs figure to be tough in the final three matches. 177-pounder Richard Sischo, 10-6; 190-pounder Richard
England, 8-6; and heavyweight Robert Way, 9-6, figure to give the Spartans tough competition. |
| |
| Tonight's meet will mark the return to action of 167-pounder Dave Brouhard for the Spartans. Brouhard, 25-4, is
ranked seventh in the nation. He missed the last two Spartan meets with the flu. |
