Entering into its next to last dual meet of the season, the SJS wrestling team takes on the University of California's
best tonight in the Men's Gym at 7:30.
In their last outing, the SJS grapplers easily subdued San Francisco State 24-7. California bested Stanford 16-9
Tuesday night. The Indians and Spartans met last week with Hugh Mumby's matmen prevailing 20-6.
Warren King will lead San Jose State into battle against the Golden Bears. King has chalked up 10 victories and
a draw in 11 matches to date this year.
Jim Noon (177) has five victories, and Don Anderson and John Lim have four each in the heavyweight and 123-pound
divisions, respectively.
Anderson came from well behind in the Gator meeting to score his second draw of the campaign. Trailing 280-pound
Craig Preisendorf 3-0 in the second period, Anderson escaped once and then almost pinned his man in the waning
moments of the tussle to earn a 5-5 standoff.
Jim Noon had little chance to break a sweat before he pinned Thomas Perdue early in the opening period.
San Jose State flexed its muscles in the middleweight classes. Carl Dommeyer, Frank Strouse, Cliff Olson, and Chet
Belknap rolled up a composite 26-9 point total over an opposing SFS foursome.
The Spartans close out their dual meet schedule against the Santa Clara Broncos Monday at 7:30 pm in the Men's
Gym. After that, it's the PCI championships at Ashland, Oregon, March 1-2. |
