Traveling to Berkeley tomorrow night, coach Hugh Mumby's wrestlers will be seeking revenge against the California
Bears for one of only two losses suffered last year.
According to Mumby, San Jose should expect more competition from the Cal grapplers than some of SJS's previous
opponents this season, but not as much competition as the Bears offered last year.
The Bears and the Spartans have a common opponent and victim this year in the Stanford Indians. While the Bears
squeaked by their arch-enemy foes from Palo Alto, San Jose state took two matches from Stanford by scores of 25-5
and 31-3.
The Spartans can expect some of their roughest competition from lightweight Toby Burnett, who will be opposing
123-pound David Armstrong. Another tough match to watch for will be between Spartan Fred Yrueta and Ken Memzer
who have met twice in the past two years and have split the two matches.
Following the match in Berkeley, the Spartans will return to face the Santa Clara Broncos Friday night in the Spartan
matroom.
Going into competition tomorrow, coach Hugh Mumby's crew holds a 4-4 record plus a victory in the Northern California
Intercollegiate Tournament here at San Jose Dec. 9.
The frosh wrestlers take on the Cabrillo Junior College grapplers tonight at Cabrillo. |
