Spartan, Gator Mat Squads Vie Tonight

San Francisco State tonight will play host to Coach Ted Mumby's SJS wrestling team in the Gator's new gym. First match will start at 8:00.

The local grapplers split a pair of dual matches last week, losing to Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo 19-16 and trouncing a strong UCLA squad at Los Angles 20-6 Thursday afternoon.

"We displayed our best wrestling of the season against the Bruins," Mumby said yesterday. "The absence of Frank Waxham, co-captain, cost us a possible victory at Cal Poly," he added. Waxham stayed at home because of a heavy study schedule.

Raider mat entries for the SFS matches include Bennie Ichikawa (1234), Jack Cassedy (130), John Jackson (137), John Melendez or Bill Wardrup (147), Lee Jordan, co-captain, or Ralph Morrocco (157), Waxham (167), Lou Menghini (177), and Jean Snyder (hwt).

Three local grapplers also are schedule to appear in exhibition matches against the Gators. The exhibitioners will include Chuck Matsumoto (115), Bob Billings (125), and either Jim van Houten or I.D. Henry (167).

San Francisco's standout is little Joe Kimura, Pacific Coast mat titlist in 1950.
