SJS Defeats Stanford 18-16

San Jose State grapplers grabbed their sixth dual meet victory of the season last night as they edged past the Stanford Indians in the local gym, 18-16.

It was the second upset win of the year for the Spartans over the Redmen, and by the identical score. The first meet was held at Stanford on January 26.

Kay Toyota decisioned Stanford's Bob Fisher in the first match and SJS was given five points for a forfeit in the second. In the 137-pound class, Bob Specer defeated the Spartans' Ron Stingley via decision and SJS' Pete Herder was outpointed by George Russell.

The Golden Raiders came back as Russ Utley fell Jim Hutchinson of the visitors in the 157-pound class. The Indians' Ken James turned in the same fete over the locals' Chuck Hall before the deciding factor of the match was announced. The Palo Altans had no competition for Spartan champ Dick Francis, thus giving the Raiders five additional markers.

In the last even, Carl Hullick of Stanford pinned Dick Fleeger but it was not enough to offset the forfeit to Francis.
