Wrestler Split Vacation Meets
|
| |
| Coach Hugh Mumby's Spartan wrestlers filled a busy semester break with four dual meets and a 17 team tournament
hosted by San Francisco State, breaking about even in wins and losses, and bringing their season record to 9-4-1. |
| |
| The SJS grapplers took a fifth place in the SFS Invitational Feb. 1, behind SFS, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and
Idaho State. The Spartans grabbed two second places in the tourney with Terry Kerr in the 130-pound class, and
Paul Hatling in the 177-pound bracket. |
| |
| Fifth place was affirmed for the Spartans by a third place in the 160-pound tussle by Gary Ramstetter, and fourths
by Art Stone and Walt Thatcher in the 115 and 167-pound matches. |
| |
| Visiting Oregon State blanked the Spartans in a Feb. 4 dual meet, outpointing Mumby's contingent in all weight
classes, 45-0. |
| |
| The Spartans mimicked Oregon the next night, however, capturing all matches from host UC Santa Barbara, running
the tally up to 40-0. |
| |
| A quick hop south to San Diego State the next night (feb. 6) saw SJS topple the Aztecs with a more conventional
23-7 score. |
