Spartans Battle 3 Foes, Defeat Stanford

 
     
  Spartan wrestlers face a tough schedule this week, meeting three foes in three nights. Wednesday night, San Jose will tangle with San Francisco in the Bay City. Thursday, SJS will battle the Olympic Club on the home mats.

Friday night, Coach Ted Mumby's wrestlers will battle San Quentin on the opponents' mats.

The Spartans took the measure of Stanford Friday night in Palo Alto for their sixth straight victory 28-8. It was the third time San Jose has defeated the Farm matmen this year.

San Jose took an early lead with Bill Rothwell, winning the opener by fall. Carl Holmberg, SJS 130 pounder , won by forfeit.

Tom Payne lost a close decision to Ben Jones, Stanford 135 pounder. Ralph Payne picked up three more points for San Jose by winning the 145 pound clash by decision.

Pat Felice won by default over Winston Mumby in the 165 pound go when Mumby was injured. Team co-captains Hans Weidenhofer and Ray Miser both copped their matches by falls.

The Stanford team captured the heavyweight bout as Dane Garst pinned Keith Wilson in the final round.

The Spartans will make their final appearance in the local gym Thursday night when they face the Winged O matmen.
