Coach Ted Mumby's up and coming varsity wrestling squad will invade the Stanford farm at Palo Alto this evening
at 8:00, seeking its third straight triumph over the rugged Indians.
The two squads have met twice this year with the Spartans winning both meets. Coach Mumby won't know until late
this afternoon who the wrestlers from Stanford will be. Winston Mumby, however, is certain to be a starter for
the Redskins tonight and Pat Felice will seek to avenge his defeat at the hands of Mumby.
The Spartans have won five meets in a row as against one defeated hand them by the strong California squad. San
Jose's victims include San Francisco State, Stanford, Berkeley, and San Francisco YMCA.
Next week will be a busy one for the matmen as they engage three foes on three consecutive evenings. This includes
the Spartans' last and most important home meet of the season against the strong Olympic Club squad Thursday.
The Winged O squad is led by Dr. M.A. Northey, who is the 165 pound national champion.
The San Quentin match has been moved up to next Friday evening when the team will wrestle Warden Clinton Duffy's
boys. San Jose invades San Francisco Wednesday evening to wrestle the Gator squad, whom they have previously defeated.
Spartans who will wrestle Stanford tonight include Bill Rothwell (121), Carl Holmberg or Paul Borg (128), Tom Payne
(136), Ralph Payne (145), Ray Miser (155), Pat Felice (165), Hans Weidenhofer (175), and Keith Wilson (hwt). |
