Casting their crutches to one side the San Jose State Wrestlers will issue forth into the Spartan Pavilion at 8:00
tonight to engage the tough and experienced Olympic Club team from San Francisco.
The Club men, coached by Douglas Parker and including both a Far West and a Pacific Coast amateur champion in their
lineup, are reported to have a definite eye on the 1936 Olympic Games which will no doubt make them very adverse
to dropping a match to the Spartans.
On the other hand, the local boys boast the best condition they have yet attained during the current season and
fresh from their recent win over the strong Oakland YMCA have more than an outside chance of scoring another victory.
"While it is true we concede experience in a large number of matches, on the basis of the form exhibited by
our boys in recent workouts, i expect an exceptionally close meet," remarked coach Gene Grattan. "Captain
Art Philpott, 165 pounds, and Melvin Rush, 155, are wrestling for the first time since the UCLA meet and take a
load off my mind concerning these two divisions."
"Jack Fiebig, 125, is highpoint man of the team in matches won so far this season, boasting a spotless record.
Glenn DuBose, our contribution from the football squad, has two wins out of two starts and although comparatively
new to the game, would provide a stiff battle for any amateur heavy weight on the coast," he added.
The lineup is complete with the exception of the 118 pound division, in which Numerin Davin will win by default
if no opponent is provided. Several exhibition matches are also slated. |
