Spartans Defeat Berkeley YMCA |

| Coach Ted Mumby's sensational varsity wrestling squad won its fifth meet in a row last night at the Spartan Gym
as they defeated the Berkeley YMCA by the score of 30-10. The junior varsity squad also trimmed the Berkeleyites
to the tune of 22-7. Falls featured the meet as each varsity match except one ended by a Spartan throwing his opponent. The Berkeleyites gained one fall in the final varsity match. Several Spartans wrestled for the first time last night and gave a good account of themselves. "I'm proud of my beginners," Coach Mumby declared enthusiastically. The varsity took an early lead in the opening bout as Dick Brown threw Jim Leonard (128) near the end of the match. Freddie Albright pinned his opponent, Hal Maddock, in a good exhibition match. Pat Felice won on a default by Charlie Pabis after Pabis hurt his leg. Han Weidenhofer showed too much power for his opponent, Bob Canary, and pinned him in 1:45. Del Armstrong threw Gordy Hommer in the 191 pound match. Willis Stone surprised Bill Benson and pinned him in one minute. Jim Rickard threw Bill Williams in 1:18. |
