| Spartan wrestling coach T.J. Kerr wasn't overly concerned about Stanford's wrestling team. So the coach held out
two of his top wrestlers, Ed Baza and Andy Tsarnas, and watched his team easily defeat the Cardinals 40-12 Tuesday
night at Stanford. |
| |
| The Spartans, who fell victim to a great thrashing against Cal-State Bakersfield last Saturday night, received
three Stanford forfeits while winning seven out of 10 matches. |
| |
| SJSU was lead by the Jones brothers, senior Wayne at 134 pounds and freshman Marvin at 177, who each pinned their
opponents. |
| |
| Sophmore Brad Gustafson at 126 pounds easily defeated his opponent by the incredible score of 31-8 while junior
John Middlestead at 142 pounds did likewise 17-3. |
| |
| "Stanford was no threat at all," Kerr said. |
| |
| Now that Stanford is out of the way, the Spartans are looking forward to tonight's match at Cal Poly-SLO. |
| |
| Kerr mentioned that along with Bakersfield, Cal Poly is the Spartan's greatest rivalry. |
| |
| "We beat them twice in a row, once this year and once last year," Kerr said. "And they're still
ranked ahead of us. We expect it to be a good meet." |
| |
| Kerr said the Spartans will do everything possible to beat Cal Poly. Baza will drop from 142 to 134. Tsarnas will
drop from 177 to 167. Wayne Jones from 134 to 126. And Gustafson from 126 to 118. |
| |
| Kerr added that his team has been battling the flu the last two weeks but right now they are about as healthy as
could be expected. |
