SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 2-11-37                   Wrestlers Prepare For Matches With Oakland YMCA           Competing with swimming, basketball, and dramatic entertainments this Friday, coach Gene Grattan's wrestlers will attempt to stave off the championship of the Oakland YMCA. "Stay at homes" will be able to see the Oakland club that boasts eight former college champions who claim they are bound for the Far Western team championship. They will also see eight determined Spartans still smarting from the close decision lost to the Olympic Club on Saturday. Competition throughout bay region circles has been particularly strong this year because of the fact that last year, the Olympic Games year, gathered many new adherents who have presented a formidable wrestling front. John Jones, heavyweight threat, has returned to the mat after a short illness and will press Sam Della Maggiore for the top spot on the squad.
