Stanford May Cancel Match With Matmen

Hoping to see some action this week against the Stanford Indians, Gene Grattan's wrestling squad continued serious workouts last night in Spartan Pavilion.

While it appears pretty definite that Stanford will engage the local troupe in an informal meet here Friday, there is a chance that the Indian squad may be unable to go through with the scheduled match. "I booked Stanford for an informal meet when the Oakland Athens notified me it could not go through with its scheduled bout against us," commented Grattan, "but right now there is a possibility that even Stanford cannot come over to play tag. However, i'm hoping we can get together with the Indians. The match is far from being canceled yet."

If the State-Stanford match goes through, Grattan will use mostly second stringers. He doesn't want to risk chance of injury among his regulars and at the same time the Spartan coach desires to give the substitutes a good workout.

Sparta's wrestlers are looking forward to February 18th. On that date they collide with the strong UCLA grappling squad. The match will be held in Los Angeles. On February 25th, State comes to grips with University of California.
