Spartan Grapplers Go Through Light Practice Sessions

Coach Ted Mumby plans to send his wrestling squads through light workouts this week in hopes that the mental tension will be relaxed a little for a pair of grappling matches on schedule for this weekend.

The aches and bumps received during th past months are expected to have been erased by this Friday as the Spartans invade the home grounds of the Stanford University performers.

Tutored by gridiron's immortal guard, Chuck Taylor, the Indians have shown promise of possessing a strong team. Leading the Tribe will be Dick DeWitt (175) and heavyweight Stephen Garst. Both lads won the first place crowns of their divisions last week in the Northern California Junior Wrestling Tournament.

In the lighter weights, Taylor has been experimenting with a new squad of men. Assisting the Indian mentor is Winston Mumby, the son of the Spartan coach, Ted Mumby.

The Cal Poly Mustangs have send words to the effect that they will be out to repeat their performance of last Saturday evening when they stomped over the Spartan grapplers 18-16.

Grazing in their southland pasture after their clean sweep over the Alameda Naval Air Station sailors are a group of outstanding matsters under the watchful eye of head coach Sheldon Hardin.

Ray Bunnell, the Spartan's 155-pound grappler, may not see any action this weekend because of an ear ache and his place Mumby will put ex-Navy man Frank Waxham.

Back into action in the two day battles after a two week layoff will be SJS starters Phil Bray, Larry Cunningham, Frank Waxham, Ben Ichikawa, Joe Killeen, and Don Suzukawa.
