SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 12-6-54                   Matmen Win "Y" Title           The San Jose State grapplers remained unbeaten this season by capturing the Northern California Open YMCA tourney in Berkeley by scoring 43 points, four times as man markers as their nearest rival, San Francisco Olympic Club, who had 10. Other scores: San Francisco State 6, Santa Clara 5, California 5, the Oakland YMCA, the San Francisco YMCA, San Francisco Rowing Club 3, and the Reno YMCA 2. First place winners for the SJS wrestling team were Joe Isasi (115), Dick Weger (157), Ken Spagnola (167), Russ Camilleri (177), Jerry Ledin (191), and Ken Rugg (hwt). Placing for the Spartans were Ben Fernandez, second in 137, Lynn Brooks, second in 147, Gus Talbot, second in 167, Bob Allan, third in 167, and Roy Frontani, second in 191.
