Wrestlers Take Seventh in San Jose Tourney
|
| |
| It wasn't the best way to start a season. |
| |
| The Spartan wrestling team went into the 11th Annual San Jose Invitational Saturday knowing the loss of seven men
from the varsity was going to hurt them. And it did. |
| |
| SJS, which once dominated the tourney, feel to a 7th place finish out of 15 teams. Fresno State and Cal Poly SLO
finished one and two followed by Stanford, California, San Francisco State, and Chico State. |
| |
| It wasn't a completely disastrous afternoon, however, as two stalwarts on the squad, L.Q. Starling (115) and Loren
Miller (152) placed third and first in their respective divisions. Newcomer Joe Aquino also overcame inexperience
by garnering a second place spot in the heavyweight division. |
| |
| Coach Hugh Mumby looked at the loss philosophically, "We didn't expect to win but were a little disappointed
with a couple of the boys who were expected to do better." |
