The SJSU wrestling team remained undefeated, beating UC-Davis 35-8 Monday night at Spartan Gym.
The Spartans (2-0), who beat Stanford on Nov. 15 in the teams first match since being reinstated by SJSU President
Gail Fullerton, won seven of the ten weight classes they competed in against the Aggies.
"They wrestled pretty good as a team," SJSU assistant wrestling coach Andy Tsarnas said. "We were
real happy."
After a tie in the first weight class, the Spartans ran off six straight victories before losing in the 177-pound
class. The only other match the team lost was in the heavyweight class.
"We got real good performances out of Arnold Kahnbabian (126), David Love (142), Matt Toves (150), Shane Baum
(158), and Shannon Felix (167)," Tsarnas said.
Baum pinned his opponent, Love won by technical fall (he scored 15 points before his opponents scored any), and
Toves, Felix, and Khanbabian all won by wide margins.
Spartans Greg Eisner (134) and Scott Benson (190) also were winners.
"We're on the right track now. Everyone wrestled pretty tough," Tsarnas said. "Our next meet will
be up at Chico State, and they're pretty good." |
