The top collegiate wrestlers in Northern California will be on hand tomorrow in the Spartan Gym for the annual
NorCal championships.
Attention at the meet will focus on Spartan Lorne Miller and Alan Siegel of Cal, defending titlists in the 145
and 137 pound divisions, respectively.
Miller, who placed seventh in the NCAA meet last season, is one of the key matmen coach Hugh Mumby is counting
on to give the SJS crew a second straight team championship in tomorrow's event.
Other Spartans expected to place high in the meet are Ron Matheson (130) and Gary Scardina (152).
Weigh-ins are set for 9:00 am and actual competition gets underway at noon.
The San Joseans are slated to get in some practice for the multi-school fray this afternoon at 4:00 in PER 207
when they take on the University of Nevada in a dual meet.
The Wolfpack grapplers are an inexperienced squad, having come into existence only last season. Nevertheless, Mumby
feels that they are strong in the middle-weight divisions, and should give the Spartans the competition they need
to prepare themselves for tomorrow's matches. |
