Wrestlers Vie In Berkeley Novice Meet

San Jose State wrestlers move from the practice mats to match competition tomorrow when the Spartans send 15 to 20 men to Berkeley for the Northern California Intercollegiate Novice Tournament that opens the grappling season.

Coach Hugh Mumby hopes the tourney will give some indication of the Spartan potential, but since the match is limited to novices and non-letter winners, the SJS mentor will have to wait until next weekend to get a good line on his varsity prospects.

San Jose plays host to the Intercollegiate Open Tournament next Saturday, which brings some of Northern California's top wrestling talent under one roof.

Mumby looks for heavyweight Paul Hodgins, and juniors Ed Fuller and Dave Johnson, to fare well in the tourney. He is also high on Warren King and Cliff Olson, a pair of promising freshmen.
