Wrestling Schedule Means No Break for Spartans

It will be mostly work and little play for the SJSU varsity wrestlers during the forthcoming christmas break.

The Spartans will host San Diego State University Friday night at 7:30 in the Women's Gym in each school's first league dual meet of the season.

Saturday, the Spartans will wrestle Hayward State at 5:30 pm after the visiting Aztecs have their shot at Hayward at 2 pm. Both matches will be held in the Women's Gym.

Then after just two short days of relaxation, the grappling Spartans meet the University of Alberta Tuesday evening, 7:30, in the Men's Gym.

Admission to all matches is free.

Rookie coach Terry Kerr's club is led by several outstanding wrestlers, including heavyweight Donnel Jackson. He finished second last week in the Doc Peterson Invitational Tournament (at Chico State) and was champion of SJSU's Invitational two weeks ago.

Jackson's feats thus far this season are even more remarkable considering he spent last summer recuperating from back surgery.

Other Spartans expected to compete in the matches include 118-pound Danny Kida, undefeated in exhibition matches; 126-pound Steve Baca, injured in pre-season and now competing in his first match and team co-captain; coach Kerr's brother Tim Kerr, 158, champion of the SJSU Invitational, second in the Doc Peterson Invitational; co-captain and 167-pounder Dean Prescott, 4th place finisher in the Doc Peterson Invitational.
