SJS Wrestlers Finish Second in SF Tourney

Spartan wrestlers gained a second place in the annual Portola Festival Tournament held Saturday in the central YMCA in San Francisco.

The SJS matmen were topped by the favored Olympic Club in a three-way battle that also included the University of California squad. The winged wrestlers garnered 44 points, San Jose College followed with 35 and California with 29.

Coach Ted Mumby's "grunt and groaners" marked up most of the points in the middle and heavyweight classes.

Lee Jordan and Ray Bunnell grabbed the first and second place honors, respectively, on the 155-pound class. Ralph Morrocco won second place in the 165-pound division, while Larry Cunningham and Lou Menghini swept the 191-pound honors. Al Cadena place first in the heavyweight ranks, and Jean Snyder copped third place.
