SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 12-1-54                  Matmen Enter Open Tourney            The SJS matmen have entered the Northern California "Y" Open Junior Wrestling Tournament being conducted by Berkeley YMCA Saturday, coach Hugh Mumby disclosed yesterday. The Spartans finished second in the tourney last season after capturing the meet in 1952. Coach Mumby said he plans to enter 20 wrestlers. Anyone who previously won in the tourney is ineligible to compete again. Spartan matmen tallied a 17-16 victory over Cal in the season opener this year.
