SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 11-30-61                  SJS Wrestlers Await Dec. 9 Tourney Date           San Jose State hosts the Northern California Intercollegiate Tournament Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Spartan Gym at 12 noon. Then the SJS wrestlers meet the rugged San Francisco Olympic Club Tuesday night, Dec. 12, in the Olympic Club at 7. Coach Hugh Mumby, Spartan wrestling mentor, laments the loss of outstanding grappling stars David Nevis and Bernie Slate. However, seven returning lettermen and a fine crop of beginning grapplers make Mumby smile. The Spartan wrestlers copped 5th place on the Pacific Coast and were rated the best grappler team in California comparatively, with a 9-2 record. Returning lettermen are David Armstrong (123), Bob Lopez (137), LeRoy Stewart (147), Gerald Nelson (157), Fred Yrueta (167), Paul Hodgins (191). and George Hewitt (hwt). Nelson is listed as doubtful because of prior commitments.
