SJSU Wrestling Archives The Spartan Daily 10-7-40                   Wrestlers Vote For Continuation Of 1940 Schedule           The San Jose State College wrestlers will carry on their schedule, despite the tragic death of coach Gene Grattan last Thursday in an automobile accident. Although no action has been taken by college officials, the Spartan wrestlers are unanimous in their wish to continue the season, "just as Gene would want us to do." Unless the Physical Education department chooses a new coach, the wrestlers will consider team captain Mel Bruno as their mentor throughout the season. Grattan contributed his services without pay as wrestling coach, and if the college is unwilling to hire a new coach, the varsity men will coach the freshmen and beginners. "The least we old-timers can do," declared Bruno, "is carry on the sport and traditions Gene established." First competition will be the annual all-college novice wrestling tournament in the second week of November.
