 Frosh Matmen Drop Jaguars In Home Meet

 
     
  The SJS freshmen grapplers won their second victory of the season Wednesday, trouncing the San Jose City College grapplers 30-8 at the Spartan Gym.

The Spartababes record is two wins, three losses, and one tie, but the three losses were suffered in the first three meets of the season.

Walt Armijo, who wrestles in the 130-pound class for SJS, remained undefeated.

Highly touted Rich Popejoy from Cupertino High School made his debut for the Spartababes by pinning his opponent in the heavyweight division.

Popejoy was North Coast Section high school wrestling champion and a highly regarded football prospect. He participated on the freshman football team last fall and joined the wrestling team late.

The Spartababes will not resume competition until next semester.

San Jose State winners were Walt Armijo (130), Steve Murphy (137), Kris Anderson (147), John Walbrink (157), Don Witeck (167), Dick Dixon (177), Mike Rodolico (191), Rich Popejoy (hwt).
