 Grattan Boasts Star Wrestlers

If you should happen to ask Mr. Gene Grattan how his Spartan wrestling squad stacks up, his probable reply would be, "That won't be known until January 14 when we meet the San Francisco YMCA," but in the same breath Gene would likely retort, "however, the gang looks pretty good right now."

And Grattan has every reason to be smiling these days because a flock of experienced matmen turned out and they bid fair to cut quite a swath in intercollegiate circles. For one, there is team captain Martin Olavarri competing in the 135-pound division.

Grattan is leaning heavily upon Olavarri to score team points for his 1938 squad. Another ace returning is diminutive Jack Fiebig, 125 pounds of wrestling fury who was undefeated last season. Sam Della Maggiore represents another ace in Grattan's pack. He and John Jones will share the heavyweight burden throughout the season.

There are some outstanding grapplers in the lighter classes, but coach Grattan sorely needs men for the 118-pound division. Henry Puckett, last year's kingpin, has left school and as a result there are no Spartan entries for this class.
